A Night to Celebrate

On Tuesday, April 6, the Cedar Valley Detachment held its annual spring banquet.  The banquet was held to celebrate the installation of Detachment Officers and to honor select members for outstanding service.

The evening's celebration started with RJ Fagle of Cedar Memorial Funeral Home honoring Associate Member Rod Thompson with a Marine NCO sword in recognition for his work as Detachment Color Guard Commander.

Next, Chaplain Randy Randall was recognized as Marine of the Year in recognition for his years of dedicated service as Detachment Chaplain, and for his contributions to detachment color guard, and the Cedar Rapids Veterans Council.

Department of Iowa Commandant Jim Marlow attended the event as an honored guest, and graciously allowed for a minor deviation from normal swearing-in procedure.  Generally speaking, the senior officer present conducts the swearing-in of incoming officers.  Commandant Marlow agreed to allow Department of Iowa Sr. Vice Commandant, and outgoing Detachment Commandant Dave Cork to swear in this year's officers.

The Cedar Valley Detachment would like to thank Commandant Marlow and RJ for attending, and to congratulate this year's officers and honorees.
