On Saturday, November 8, the Cedar Valley Detachment celebrated the 250th birthday of the Marine Corps at Eastbank Venue in Cedar Rapids.
The event included the traditional Cake Cutting ceremony, dinner, followed by words from Guest of Honor SSGT Chandler Swieczkowski, an active duty Marine Corps recruiter in the area. We also had a raffle, silent auction and an evening of dancing with Rock and Thunder DJ spinning the music.
We also recognized Marine Harry Foster, our 2025 Marine of the Year, and Rod Thompson, our 2025 Associate of the year.
This was the best-attended event we've hosted in over a decade, and we're already looking forward to the 2026 Birthday Ball, where we will celebrate the 250th birthday of our great country.
We would like to once again thank our sponsors. Their generosity allowed us to invite Marines and FMF Navy Personnel to attend at no cost, and guests were able to attend for only $25 each. To put this in perspective, we are unaware of ANY Marine Corps Ball where this occurred.
